Teenager hit and killed by train in Sterling identified

A teenager was killed after being hit by a train in Sterling, Illinois.

On Sunday, October 16, 2016, Sterling Police were called to the area near the Avenue K railroad crossing around noon.

Officers said the teenager, later identified as 14-year-old Jacob R. Williamson, was on the railroad tracks, about 500 feet west of the crossing, when he was hit by the train.

Williamson was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are still investigating the incident.
