Dozens of people saluted veterans and first responders at a unique wreath-laying ceremony in Davenport.
On Saturday, October 15, 2016, LULAC Council 10 hosted the event at Leclaire Park. Volunteers from the U.S. Coast Guard placed eight wreaths in the Mississippi River, which floated away to the sound of a 21-gun salute.
The ceremony is meant to honor and thank the Americans who have served either in the military or as first responders.
"I can't think of a greater backdrop to be able to celebrate those who have defended this great nation. Some have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and others, who continue to serve on a daily basis," said Richard Dix, Commanding General of the Joint Munitions Command on the Rock Island Arsenal.
Dix was the keynote speaker at Saturday's event, which concluded with a tribute to all fallen military members and first responders.
This is the sixth year LULAC Council 10 has coordinated and hosted the ceremony.
