MOLINE, Illinois - The wait is over for hockey fans. The Quad City Mallards are ready to drop the puck on a new season.

The crowd was pumped to see the Quad City Mallards hit the ice for their 20th season on Friday, October 14, 2016.

Die-hard fans were excited to be part of the celebration.

"It's just really fun to see the goals and stuff," says Weston, 5.

Some people even becoming mallards fans for the very first time.

"This is my first game ever. Yeah, go mallards!" says Dylan.

Mallards president Bob McNamara says this game is special.

There were some seasons about 4 or 5 years ago there was some questions about whether or not the team would remain here," says McNamara.

Friday's game marks the 20th season the team has been in the Quad Cities.

Players sported these 1996 jerseys during the game, throwing it back to where it all started.

"It's really a replica of what they wore during the first several years when they won all those championships. It's a testament to the players who started here years ago that laid the foundation," added McNamara.

Players will be sporting the old school jerseys throughout the season to keep the memory alive.
