IOWA City, Iowa — The 2016 presidential election has got the nation buzzing, and even those who don’t normally pay attention to politics are weighing in.

That’s what high school teacher John Burle is seeing, according to a report by KCRG.  But he says it’s not policy they’re focusing on, and seems to be more of a popularity contest.

“It’s an election of who do you like better? Or who do you hate least?” said Burkle, who teaches AP government at Iowa City High School. “It’s hard.”

Burkle noted that this one has been “the most bizarre” election he’s ever seen, KCRG reported.  He said students are interested in the latest scandals, and not necessarily the usual topics.

To balance their piqued interest in controversy, he said he urges his students to look to trusted news outlets for accurate information.
