BETTENDORF, Iowa — It's fire prevention week and students are learning the basic rules of fire safety. Bettendorf firefighters spent the morning at Riverdale Heights Elementary School on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The kindergartners watched a puppet show, learning the basic of fire safety rules such as 'stop, drop and roll.' They also got to see all of the fire gear up close.

One teacher says they are trying to prepare their students in case of a real emergency.

"I think that's the scariest part for a child in a fire is when you have this person come up and is breathing weird, talking strange to know that that person is a safe person and you need to go to them," said Lisa Bradley, the kindergarten teacher.

The students were also able to tour a fire truck during the morning's training.
