An organization focused on pet health is seeking information from dog and cat owners regarding their pets’ weight.  They are working to make the lives of these creatures a little bit healthier.

The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention says 54% of dogs are overweight or obese and 58% of cats are too heavy.  In view of Pet Obesity Awareness Day, Wednesday, October 12, 2016, the association is conducting a survey.

Click here to take the survey, which consists of 20 questions about your pet’s food, his or her weight, and what your veterinarian does to offer support.

The association outlined a list of primary risks connected with excess weight in pets. Those include:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Insulin Resistance and Type 2 Diabetes
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Heart and Respiratory Disease
  • Cranial Cruciate Ligament Injury
  • Kidney Disease
  • Many Forms of Cancer
  • Decreased life expectancy (up to 2.5 years)
