It's a partnership that could start a new trend in tourism and planning vacations, an interactive online map listing out popular spots along the Mississippi River.
It would be hard to argue against the beauty and excitement that is offered along the mighty Mississippi, and places like LeClaire Park in Davenport are just one of thousands of spots featured on a new website put on by National Geographic.
This is the launch of a new Mississippi River Geotourism program where people who live along the river in the Quad Cities, or visit spots along the Mississippi River, can put in their favorite places into an interactive map and share why that location was so memorable.
The Quad Cities area is going to be a heavily-featured part of this, including things like the Celebration Belle rides starting in Moline, or LeClaire Park, which features the yearly Blues Fest.
The site already has a whole host of spots programmed in, but people will always be able to contribute their thoughts to the project.
"So, this is Quad Citians telling their story. This is not a writer or somebody else telling the story through their filters, but this is Quad Citians speaking directly to a visitor about why they should visit our community. We're the experts," Joe Taylor with the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau said.
The official announcement of the website launch happens Wednesday, October 12th, 2016, and the site is up and ready for everyone to look through, and also add places they feel should be featured for visitors to the Quad Cities.
The site is funded through a partnership with the Mississippi River Geotourism Council and National Geographic, and has been organized over the last 18 months with over 2,000 nominations of sites and attractions.
