DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A former Iowa prison guard who sued the state claiming she was sexually harassed after she led efforts to halt the showing of sexually graphic and violent movies to sex offenders and rapists has been granted a new trial.

The Iowa Court of Appeals on Wednesday, Oct. 12, said the jury instructions given at Kristine Sink’s trial in 2014 inaccurately reflected the law and misled jurors.

Sink sued the state seeking more than $4 million for emotional distress. At her 2014 trial a jury rejected her claims and she appealed.

She alleges supervisors allowed inmates to harass her for years and co-workers belittled her for challenging the showing violent and sexually explicit movies to inmates with mental illness and behavioral problems.

Prison officials eventually acknowledged showing the movies was a mistake.
