BETTENDORF, Iowa - Standing before a friendly crowd at the Scott County's annual Ronald Reagan dinner, Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence made it clear his running mate is still the right person to vote for.

"You have nominated a man for president who never quits, who never backs down, he is a fighter, he`s a winner," said Governor Pence.

He was quick to address Friday's video release of Trump using derogatory words to describe women.

"You know it takes a big man to know when he`s wrong, to admit it, to apologize. Donald Trump did that before the nation on Sunday night," said Governor Pence.

Adding he won Sunday night's debate, "Donald trump won the debate hands down against Hillary Clinton."

Fact Check: What was true and false from the 2nd Presidential Debate

Governor Pence wants voters to focus on the controversies surrounding Clinton's deleted emails.

"I'm old enough to remember when a president of the United States erased 18 and a half minutes and they ran him out-of-town in Washington D.C. You know Hillary Clinton we find out she had a private server and she used bleach bit and hammers to do away with evidence," said Governor Pence.

A Des Moines Register poll conducted last week shows Trump with a lead in the state. A sign of how important the state is to Republicans.

"I truly do believe four weeks from now when the polls close across America we`re going to make Donald trump the 45th president of the United States of America," said Governor Pence.
