Acentra Credit Union was given the "Together We Advance" national designation this week for its work building relationships with the Hispanic community in the Quad Cities.

The designation, which recognizes a commitment to empowering Hispanic consumers, was developed in 2005 as an immigrant outreach program by the Cornerstone Credit Union League. It now is expanding nationwide through an initiative of The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions.

Ascentra is the first Quad Cities area credit union to receive the designation.

"This is really a testament of all the work we've done for many years and working with the growing Hispanic community here in the area, " said  Alvaro Macias, the credit union's assistant vice president of community development. "Here in Moline 70% of the population is Hispanic and it's really driving a lot of our growth."
