Davenport Coffee Hound becomes Luke’s to promote ‘Gilmore Girls’ return

The day also marked the 16th anniversary of the show’s premiere.

DAVENPORT, Iowa--  Fans of the show Gilmore Girls lined up starting early morning Wednesday, October 5, to get a free cup of coffee at the Coffee Hound in Davenport. The shop was one out of 200 coffee shops in the country chosen to promote the new season of Gilmore Girls by turning into Luke's for a day.

Those craving all things Gilmore were invited to grab a free cup of coffee in tribute to Lorelai and Rory, the caffeine-addicted mother and daughter at the center of the show. About 500 coffees were passed out. The takeover was set to last from 6 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

The event was to promote the series’ Netflix revival this fall. The comedy-drama will will release November 25 as a four-episode miniseries titled “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.” Stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel will reprise their roles.

The day also marked the 16th anniversary of the show’s premiere.
