Flood damages house boats near Cedar Rapids

As the flood waters continue to drop, members of the Ellis Harbor Association say the goal now is to keep the rest of the homes afloat.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Some families are wondering how to recover from the flooding north of Cedar Rapids. Ellis Boat Harbor is a popular summer destination for house boat owners. Most of the house boats survived with little to no damage, but not everyone was so lucky.

As the flood waters continue to drop, members of the Ellis Harbor Association say the goal now is to keep the rest of the homes afloat.

"They were all kind of jammed together yesterday, and the neighbors on the hill heard a big boom about 5:30 this morning, they came running down and this is what they saw I don't know, I don't know," said Gloria Rolfson, boathouse owner.

While most houseboat owners will likely be back after the flood, Gloria says she's not sure what her future holds.
