CHICAGO, Illinois -- Illinois State Police are investigating two shootings on the Eisenhower Expressway. One left a man dead and a woman critically injured.

The  first shooting happened  around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, according to a report by WGN.  It happened in the westbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway, or Interstate 290, a few miles west of downtown Chicago.

In that shooting, 22-year-old Johnathon Ortiz, an aspiring rapper known as "John Doe," was killed, WGN reported.  His girlfriend, 22-year-old Alexis Garcia, was injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment.  The two were reportedly going out for breakfast.

The second shooting happened in the eastbound lanes at the exit ramp to Central Avenue, WGN reported.  One person was injured.

The shooting prompted authorities to shut down expressway lanes during rush hour as they searched for evidence.
