DAVENPORT, Iowa — Two Susan G. Komen charities are combining forces and will be working under one name, “Komen Greater Iowa.”
The new operation will combine “Susan G. Komen Iowa” and “Komen Quad Cities” and will fuse together by early 2017, according to a statement from “Komen Quad Cities.” “Komen Greater Iowa” will serve 95 Iowa counties and four Illinois counties.
With the merge, Komen charities anticipate that they will run more efficiently, improve fundraising events, maximize time, and make a bigger impact together.
“Our shared commitment to the women and men we serve will not change,” said Roger Dahl, Komen Iowa’s executive director. “By working together in a smart and strategic way, we believe strongly we will be able to improve our capacity to deliver on Komen’s mission and reach the new bold goal.”
That goal is to cut the number of cancer deaths in half within the next 10 years. To accomplish this, the organization plans to focus on investing in early detection methods and treatments for breast cancer. They also plan to address issues patients have in getting quick and quality treatment.
The president of Komen Quad Cities, Martha Watters, said the local 5k, funding support, as well as office and staff will remain the same through the merge.
“This plan will strengthen Komen Iowa’s presence across Iowa and Illinois,” Watters said.
