The Moline City Council has called for a special meeting Friday morning to vote on spending up to $120,000 to investigate claims of theft and misconduct by a city worker.
Council members will vote on spending up to $100,000 for a forensic audit, and up to $20,000 to hire outside counsel with the law firm of Lane and Waterman.
Alderman John Zelnio says the council believes the outside audit is the best way to prove or disprove the allegations, and either exonerate or hold the person in question accountable.
City leaders aren't saying what department the employee works for.
WQAD-TV was told that co-workers came forward and complained to at least two council members about the allegations, which include "theft and whistleblower violations", according to the council motion.
The special meeting will be held Friday at 8 a.m. at Moline City Hall, and is open for public comment.
