ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The Rock Island/Milan school district is looking at a nearly $1 million deficit.
However, the district says it's not worried.
Board members approved a budget that includes a $900,000 deficit. Even with the budget going into the red, the Superintendent doesn't plan to cut staff or programs.
The district's financial officer, Bob Beckwith said Rock Island will actually see some good news from the state. Illinois is offering $23 million in state aid to Rocky this year.
The state's temporarily budget ends at the end of December, but Rock Island thinks it'll still be okay through the school year.
"We anticipated if there was no state budget what would happen to us and we had projected we would be able to make it till March but now the state has a budget in play we know what our revenues are going to be, we'll be fine," said Beckwith.
Despite the deficit the district hired nine more teachers this year.
