CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - According to the National Weather Service's latest report on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, the Cedar River is expected to crest below 23 feet.
WQAD News 8 Meteorologist Eric Sorensen was live in Cedar Rapids all Tuesday morning during Good Morning Quad Cities, showing us how the city has prepared for the crest Tuesday.
The crest of the Cedar River will still likely be eight feet below the record flood of 2008 but likely the second highest the city has ever seen. Workers have filled 250,000 sandbags, and almost 10 miles of temporary hesco barriers have been set up.
City leaders have asked residents in areas near the river to evacuate. The evacuation zone contains about 20,000 people as well as 5,800 homes and businesses.
