Rock Island Fire Department gives parents a lesson in car seat safety

In Illinois, children are required to ride in a car seat until they are at least 8 years-old or until they are taller than 4 foot 9 inches.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois--  The Rock Island Fire Department wrapped up National Child Passenger Safety Week by hosting a car seat safety check.

Passenger safety technicians looked for things like proper installation and restraints, while educating parents on what they can do to keep their kids safe on the road.

"Four out of five car seats that are on the street today are incorrect, so that's amazing... we've got our work set out for us," says Child Passenger Safety Instructor Keene Hart.
