Milan shelter waives adoption fees during one-day Clear the Shelter event

Adoption fees are waived for any animals adopted on Saturday that are 6 months and older. Kitten adopts will be cut in half, $20 instead of $40.

MILAN, Illinois — The Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan is holding a one-day only Clear the Shelter adoption event on Saturday, Sept. 24. Adoption fees are waived for any animals adopted on Saturday that are 6 months and older. Kitten adopts will be cut in half, $20 instead of $40.

The goal is to get as many animals adopted as possible to clear the center and make way to help more animals. Most of the shelter’s cats and dogs come from other shelters where they are facing euthanasia, said the executive director.

The event will start will be held only on Saturday from noon-5 p.m. All normal adoption procedures will be in place. Adopters must being a valid driver’s license or state ID, and spending at least an hour at the shelter.

All animals offered for adoption have been spayed/neutered, given their proper vaccinations, and are microchipped. Dogs have been tested for heartworm disease, and cats are tested for both FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) and FeLV (feline leukemia virus).

QCAWC is located at 724 Second Avenue West, in Milan, and is open noon-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
