Palmer Chiropractic College celebrates first adjustment with lunch, celebration

Palmer leaders say the practice has come far since it was first founded, but there’s still a long way to go.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Palmer College celebrated more than 100 years since the very first chiropractic adjustment. The first one in the world happened right here in Davenport, Iowa and it was done by Palmer's founder, DD Palmer, in 1897.

Students and staff gathered to enjoy a free lunch while the college provost gave a little history behind the school. Palmer leaders say the practice has come far since it was first founded, but there's still a long way to go.

"Only about 14 percent of the population will visit a chiropractor on a regular basis. Chiropractic is less expensive, good outcomes, I want to make sure the barriers fade away and chiropractic really becomes part of mainstream healthcare," said Dan Weinert, Palmer College Provost.

This year, Palmer's Davenport campus has more than 1,000 students and 300 employees.
