ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — The local Foster Care Alliance invited dozens of foster children to St John’s Lutheran Church in Rock Island, to help raise awareness to the lack of foster homes in the Quad Cities.
Each child was given a piece of fabric to decorate. These pieces will then be made into a quilt and put on display in Rock Island, Henry and Mercer county courthouses in May 2017.
The quilts will continue to be displayed at various places in the Quad Cities throughout the year.
"It's awesome that this is going to be displayed in so many places over the next year and more and more people are going to be exposed to the idea of foster placement and really start to think about our kids but if we don't see it, it doesn't happen," says Meagan Moller, clinical supervisor at Lutheran Social Services.
There are about 270 children in foster care placement and only about 160 foster families in Rock Island Mercer and Henry county.
