Pay it Forward: For The Love of Abraham

There isn’t a day that goes by that Tina Greer doesn’t think about her son Abraham.

Milan, ILLINOIS - There isn't a day that goes by that Tina Greer doesn't think about her son Abraham.

On September 22, 2014, Abraham was born with a heart defect. Tina's son was also born without a spleen, and shortly after his birth, she had to put him on life support.

"We thought we were on our way home," Greer said. "We ultimately wanted him to die in our arms and not on the operating table, so we chose to take him off life support."

Abraham lived for less than a month. In his honor, the family has started a group called For the Love of Abraham. Greer makes care packages for families who have kids with heart defects. They're full of jewelry, candles, and journals. She also pays for everything out of her own pocket.

"God will provide for us," Greer said. "If we can provide for a family in need, and we can provide some of the things we had that brought us a little bit of comfort, then it's worth it. It's worth every dime we put into it."

The packages inspired her friend Samantha Rhoades to give back to Greer, and on Monday, September 19, 2016, Rhoades gave Greer $300 through the Pay It Forward campaign, sponsored by Ascentra Credit Union. for doing good things in the community.

Now that Greer is handling her son's death better, she has advice for those who are going through the same thing.

"You are not alone," Greer said. "If you can't find the support you need, God is with you, and he will carry you through it, whatever it is."
