DAVENPORT — A gas station clerk thwarted a Tuesday night robbery with a hammer and now the station owner wants help catching the suspects.

Ranbir Thakur owns the Gas America gas station and convenience store at 3205 Brady Street. Around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Thakur said two men came into the store, and the man dressed in an orange hoodie placed a hand in the hoodie’s pouch simulating a gun and demanded money from the clerk.

“He said, ‘give me all your money!’ and the clerk then reached for a hammer and went to hit him and both guys ran,” Thakur said Thursday morning.

No one was hurt and the would-be robbers left with no money or other items.

Security video captured several pictures of the suspect in the orange hoodie. Thakur said he’d like anyone with information about the identity of the suspects to call Davenport police at (563) 326-6125.

Lt. Jason  Smith of the Davenport Police Department confirmed that a report on the attempted robbery had been filed and that detectives are actively investigating.
