CHICAGO -- The Chicago Police Department will dramatically beef-up its force as it battles the deadly gun violence.

The CPD will add nearly 1,000 new positions over the next two years to address the spike in crime and offset retirements.

Of those positions, 516 will be for patrol officers, 200 for detectives, 112 for sergeants, 92 for field training officers, and 50 for lieutenants.

The total cost will be $134 million. But, no details yet on where that money will come from.

The CPD is supposed to have 12,500 officers as of now.
