William Young Homes residents create toys for shelter animals

Workers from the center picked up the toys this afternoon and say the animals love them.

MILAN, Illinois — Shelter animals in the Quad Cities got a special delivery today. A dozen volunteers who live at Milan's William Young Homes spent a few hours this afternoon making toys for the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

They tied water bottles in new socks for dogs, and hid catnip in children's socks for cats.

"They like to play with something, you really got to watch what you give them to play with... they really like the noise, and stuff like that," said Mary Ann Whipple.
