Quad City teen with Cerebral Palsy trains for 5k

A Quad City teen will live out a life-long dream this weekend by participating in the Quad Cities Marathon 5k.
BETTENDORF, Iowa - A Quad City teen will live out a life-long dream this weekend by participating in the Quad Cities Marathon 5k.

Every single step is an achievement and a step closer for 18-year-old Jenna Griffin. She was born with Cerebral Palsy.

"She really doesn't have the control over things so it affects her speech, her feeding, her movements, all that stuff is really affected," said Katie Powers, Griffin's physical therapist.

A year ago when Griffin met Powers, just walking was a challenge for her.

"We got maybe 15 or 16 steps," said Powers.

Fast forward to today the walks are getting longer.

"We've progressed to 400 steps," said Powers.

She's now training for her biggest challenge yet, a 5k.

"She has to train twice as hard as the average runner that`s running the marathon so this is a big deal for her," said Powers.

While Griffin admits she's nervous, she's excited to cross that finish line, step by step.
