MOLINE, Illinois — An urban farmer from Moline, Illinois is getting some help getting started from Royal Neighbors.
Amanda Olson is looking to create a farm that uses a tank and fish to fertilize plants instead of soil and fertilizer. On Friday, September 16, 2016, Olson was given a grant from Royal Neighbors to the tune of $10,000. The grant is one of 10 that the organization will be presenting across the country.
"It means me actually completing my farm in a time frame that I want, so basically I've been working on my house since 2011 turning it into my dream urban aquaponics farm," said Olson.
Olson said she plans to grow seawood in her urban fish farm.
