MUSCATINE, Iowa - People living at the Muscatine Center for Social Action are gearing up for a month of transformation after being one of the 25 spaces in the world to win a makeover.

Faith Feurer is one of many residents who call MCSA home.

“The fact that everything they are doing is help people the people that come in here means a lot to me,” says Faith.

“We created these boards here to get a sense of color and what we were going to do with each suite,” says Jennifer Conard, who runs Fresh Vintage in Muscatine.

Jennifer is one of the dozens of people helping transform MCSA.

“My mother and I run the store and we`ve been painting the space and my sister has helped too,” added Jennifer.

The shelter was chosen for a makeover out of thousands of nominations by U.K. artist Annie Sloan.

“People in the community nominated MCSA so she looked over all the nominations and chose 25 throughout the world and it’s one of three in the United States. It’s so exciting,” says Jennifer.

The makeover is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Annie Sloan's unique chalk paint. Her special paint will be used to transform and brighten the shelter.

“We`ve received lots of generous donations throughout the community of people`s time and supplies. We are just thrilled it’s almost unbelievable” said Jennifer.

“To have these ladies come in and help with the transformation and all the colors and everything on the walls it think it`s exciting, very exciting,” says Housing Director, Maggie Curry.

People who live in the shelter say the makeover will make the space feel like home.

“You want something that is going to relax you and colors will do that for you so I think it will help a lot especially with children,” says Faith.

Center coordinators say the fresh, new colors will help brighten the space and people’s day.

“Everybody deserves to smile. I don`t care who you are,” says Maggie.
