CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A state agency is investigating a fatal shooting involving officers at a Cedar Rapids apartment.

A city news release says the officers were sent around 9:30 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 to check a domestic disturbance at Valley High Apartments on the northwest side of the city.

What happened next is unclear. The news release says only that a 25-year-old “male suspect” was pronounced dead later at St. Luke’s Hospital. It doesn’t say whether he was shot by officers or why or whether he shot himself or was the victim of an accidental shooting. Apparently no officers were shot.

Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Rick Rahn said Tuesday morning that he couldn’t yet provide any more information about the shooting circumstances.

The names of those involved haven’t been released.
