Rock Island man charged with fatal hit-and-run in Davenport

A pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a car has been identified and an arrest has been made.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- A pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a car has been identified and an arrest has been made.

Police said a witness reported seeing a pedestrian, later identified as 28-year-old Donavon Sammon, get struck by a white Ford Expedition while he was crossing 3rd Street in Davenport around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016.

According to a statement from the Davenport Police Department, the vehicle reportedly left the scene without reporting the crash. Police announced on Monday, September 12 that 37-year-old Randal Brocksieck from Rock Island had been charged with leaving the scene of an accident-fatal.

An affidavit filed in Scott County indicates that Brocksieck went to the police department around 4:15 p.m. Sunday to speak with police about the crash.

Jail records show Brocksieck was booked into the Scott County Jail around 7 p.m. Sunday, and was released on bond the following morning.

An investigation headed by the Davenport Police Traffic Safety Unit continues.
