SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — The Illinois State Police are calling their Labor Day weekend enforcement operation a success. In total throughout Illinois, troopers made nearly 7,000 traffic stops, arrested 121 intoxicated drivers and handled 14 vehicle fatalities from Sept. 2-5, 2016.

Troopers also wrote 3,386 citations, issued more than 4,000 written warnings, completed 783 commercial motor vehicle inspections and helped nearly 1,000 stranded motorists, reports the Illinois State Police.

“The concentration of the effort focused on the most common causes of personal injury and fatality crashes; DUI, Speeding, Seat Belt compliance, and Distracted Driving. I am pleased with the results from the hard work and dedication of the brave men and women of the ISP,” said Illinois State Police Col. Tad Williams.
