BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — A former high school is likely to be demolished after the Burlington City Council decided not to hold a public hearing on tax incentives to redevelop the building.

The Hawk Eye reports that the council voted on Monday against scheduling the hearing, and that the city is likely to pursue a plan to demolish the building built in 1910. The building was home to the Burlington High School until a new high school was built in 1969.

The old building became Apollo Middle School before being used for the school district’s alternative high school. The structure was bought by developers in 2002 and the city took possession of it last November.

Developers had expressed interest in turning the building into apartments, but there was no guarantee of funding.
