Police arrest vehicular homicide suspect in U.S. 61 accident that killed a worker

Reese is wanted for homicide by vehicle and reckless driving.

UPDATE: 9/7, 7:30 am: The Iowa State Patrol says police have arrested Sebon Reese, the man accused of hitting and killing a construction worker near Blue Grass.

Iowa State Trooper Dan Loussaert says Reese is in the Rock Island County Jail on a $125,000 bond.

ORIGINAL STORY: BLUE GRASS -- Sebon Reese, the 18-year-old driver of a car that struck and killed a construction worker on U.S. 61 near Blue Grass on Sept. 1 is being sought by police.

Reese - along with his 1-year-old sister - were also injured in the accident that killed Willie N. Holley of Rock Island. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment and at some point last week, prior to formal charges being filed, Reese was released and his whereabouts are currently unknown, said Trooper Dan Loussaert of the Iowa State Police.

"Sometimes we have a pretty good idea of what we're going to end up charging them with, but first we have to collect and secure evidence," Loussaert said. "That was the case here."

Reese is charged with homicide by vehicle and reckless driving and eluding.  He is also wanted out of Scott County on a probation violation.

According to deputies on the scene of Thursday's accident, Reese was driving at a high rate of speed on when he attempted to pass other vehicles on the left in the median. He lost control of the vehicle, crossed the east-bound lanes and struck Holley on the side of the road.

State police are getting good cooperation in the investigation from other area law enforcement, he added.
