Iowa woman gets probation for stealing from post office
DUNKERTON, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa woman has been sentenced to probation for stealing money and stamps from the Post Office where she worked.
Susan Knapp, 41, was recently sentenced to five years of probation for second-degree theft. She pleaded guilty in May, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports.
Knapp was also granted a deferred judgment, so if she completes probation and makes restitution, the crime will be removed from her record.
Prosecutors say Knapp took $2,724 worth of cash and stamps from the Dunkerton Post Office in 2015. She also wrote several checks to the Postal Service even though she knew she didn’t have enough money in her bank account to cover them.
Knapp told investigators that she took the money to help pay her bills. She filed for bankruptcy protection in April.
