DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A Davenport tavern on the National Register of Historic Places has undergone a makeover.
Frick’s Tap was opened in 1888 by Charles Frick and joined the history register in 1974, the Quad City Times reports.
County records say three investors bought the 4,600-square-foot building for about $100,000 and have had it gutted. It’s been restored with a vintage appeal that includes exposed brick walls and reclaimed barn wood. The 22 flat-screen TVs attest to its updating.
Manager Pete Bradley hopes the establishment will draw people from all over the Quad-City area to Davenport’s west end.
Davenport Mayor Frank Klipsch toured the refurbished digs last week, noting that the project didn’t receive any financial assistance from the city. He praised the investors for “preserving a true historic landmark.”
