Crash victim and driver in U.S. 61 accident released

Holley worked for Valley Construction.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The Iowa State Patrol has released the name of the driver and victim from Thursday's fatal traffic accident on U.S. 61 just outside of Blue Grass.

Killed in the accident was Willie N. Holley, 62, of Rock Island. He was working in a construction zone for Valley Construction when he was struck and killed by a car driven by Sebon C. Reese, 18, of Davenport.

In addition, there was a 1-year-old baby in the car. Both Reese and the baby were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

In a release sent Friday afternoon, Scott County Sheriff Dennis Conard said the baby in the car was Reese's sister.

Conard said further investigation revealed that Reese was driving at a high rate of speed on U.S. 61 when he attempted to pass other vehicles on the left in the median. He lost control of the vehicle, crossed the east-bound lanes and struck Holley on the side of the road.

At the time, Deputy Gina Lieferman of the sheriff's department was attempting to catch up to Reese's speeding vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation.
