CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Cedar Rapids man with what the the U.S. States Attorney calls an “extensive criminal history” was sentenced in federal court Friday, Sept. 2, for firing off shots in a residential neighborhood with a stolen handgun.
Tiamo Blackcloud, 38, was sentenced to a federal prison term up to 10 years. He pleaded guilty in January 2016 to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Blackcloud is not allowed to own firearms due to his criminal history, says U.S. Attorney Kevin Techau.
At the hearing, Blackcloud admitted to firing a weapon into the air in a Cedar Rapids neighborhood on Aug. 18, 2015. He had been drinking at the time. Blackcloud’s history began when he was 18 and includes a total of 56 criminal convictions, and numerous assault encounters with both women and police, says the U.S. Attorney.
Blackcloud must also serve three years of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal court system.
