DAVENPORT, Iowa — Three Iowa City men were sentenced Aug. 31 in district court for their role in a heroin distribution ring, says U.S. Attorney Kevin VanderSchel.
Alfred Jackson, 26, Jason Dawson, 45, and Curtis Kemp, 49, were all charged.
Dawson’s sentenced follows his February 2016 guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. Dawson was sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered to serve four years of supervised release.
Kemp and Jackson’s sentences follow April 2016 jury verdicts that found Jackson guilty to conspiracy to distribute, and Kemp guilty of conspiracy to distribute and three counts of heroin distribution. Jackson was sentenced to 188 months (15 years, 8 months) in prison and ordered to serve four years of supervised release. Kemp was sentenced to 7 years in prison and three years of supervised release.
According to Dawson’s plea agreement, Jackson had given him large sums of heroin to sell in the Iowa City region between 2013 and 2015. Dawson then gave most of the proceeds back to Jackson, owing him up to $14,000 at a time. He had approximately 20 customers, and used some of them to further distribute the heroin, including Kemp.
Between February and May 2015, Kemp and Dawson sold heroin to an undercover officer, which contained more than 3,300 grams.
