MOLINE, Illinois-- Foster Care Alliance took their first steps towards their 2017 Roaming Quilts  project Monday, August 29.

The project aims to bring awareness to foster children in the Quad Cities.

“We have about 271 children in placement, and about 167 foster homes in all three counties of Rock Island, Mercer and Henry County... We need more foster homes,” says Robert Stone, Roaming Quilts organizer.

Volunteers got together at Believers Together Center in Moline to cut and iron about 100 ten inched quilted squares. The squares will then  be given to kids to decorate at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Island on September 23.

"The children... will be decorating them with their families and child and family visits with their parents. Some of the children will be decorating quilt squares with their counselors and their therapist," says Stone.

The quilts squares will then be put together and put on display in Rock Island, Henry and Mercer County courthouses in May 2017.

The quilt will continued to be displayed at various places in the Quad Cities through out the year.
