QC kids get new shoes ahead of Quad Cities Marathon

The goal is to encourage all kids to live a healthy, active lifestyle. That’s something adults and kids are excited about.

EAST MOLINE, Illinois —The Quad Cities Marathon is less than a month away, and this year the event is helping future runners succeed.

Organizers of the QC Marathon announced a new program today called Shoes for Kids. Sponsors of this year's race donated 75 pairs of shoes to 75 kids, who will all get free entry into a QC Marathon Weekend Race.

The goal is to encourage all kids to live a healthy, active lifestyle. That's something adults and kids are excited about.

My favorite part of today is we get new shoes and I'm super happy," said A'lyvia Perry.

Race director Joe Mareno hopes the kids will make running a part of their life.

Shoes went to kids from the Boys and Girls Club and Arrowhead Ranch. Race sponsors say they hope to supply even more shoes next year.

WQAD News 8 is a proud sponsor of the Quad Cities Marathon.
