DAVENPORT, Iowa — Recent downfalls of rain are finally impacting the Mississippi River. Right now the river is just above 11 feet and is expected to crest above 14 feet on Tuesday, Aug. 30. That's a foot below flood stage, but it will be high enough to trigger some flood protection measures.

Davenport city crews will be placing high water signs along S. Concord Street from River Drive to Utah Avenue Friday. The road will be closed when the river goes above 13 feet.

Schools in Elkander are expecting near record flooding. The Turkey River hit its crest at a little over 22 feet. That's 4 feet short of what was predicted. It's good news for business owners, who were prepared for the worst.

"Karen Grace and I took the insulation off the windows and opened up all the windows in the basement thinking that it would be best to have the water flow through the basement instead of busting out all the windows like it did in 2008," said Mary Klink, downtown business owner.
