DAVENPORT, Iowa– Hy-Vee’s top cake designers competed in this year’s Extreme Cake Challenge, Tuesday, August 23.
23 employee bakers were given three hours to prepare their best designs. The cakes were judged on originality, level of difficulty and icing appearance.
“we give them a criteria and room to run so if there’s cupcakes, if there’s cake, if it’s fondant icing … it’s all up to them, it’s all in their mind. These cake artist are amazing, there’s a lot of talent here,” says HyVee’s Corporate Bakery Supervisor, JD Deering.
The top three bakers during the Extreme Cake Challenge earned a spot in the final competition in Des Moines in November.
All of the cakes made in the competition were donated to the handicapped development center in Davenport.
