BETTENDORF, Iowa - The newly renovated Pleasant Valley High School will have more classrooms, larger gym and a lot more space.

"The additions are necessary to accommodate the growth they add instructional space," said Dr. James Spelhaug, Superintendent.

Pleasant Valley will see construction crews start work on a $20 million expansion next spring, with the school ready to open in the fall of 2018.

"Certainly you do need space to support your instructional program that's what this is doing," said Spelhaug.

It's not just plans for the High School, there's a lot of activity throughout the district right now and the first day of classes hasn't even started.

Workers are expanding Cody Elementary School and the Junior High, both projects expected to be done in 2017 as part of an on-going expansion at Pleasant Valley.

"All of them have had additions, one we just completed was at Bridgeview Elementary the two that are in process," said Spelhaug.

Pleasant Valley is growing in ways other districts might only hope for, Pleasant Valley is expecting more than 4,700 students to attend classes at it's high school and 6 other schools making it nearly 500 students more than just 4 years ago.

"We expect that high quality schools are apart of that but also the cities we serve, the north eastern part of Bettendorf has room to grow, Le Claire is a growing community," said Spelhaug.
