QC community leaders, organizations gathered to discuss poverty

According to the U.S. Census, two-thirds of people living in poverty work more than one job.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Dozens of local organizations and community leaders are working to stop the cycle of poverty. Opportunities Quad Cities joined hands with the organizers of the Prosperity Summit to help people and families over poverty.

The summit was held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport on Friday, Aug. 19. The summit's goal is to help people understand and improve poverty throughout communities.

"We are not a poor country... There is enough land, food. There is enough, we really have to take the initiative and say 'Poverty isn't okay here,'" said Dr. Donna Beegle.
