ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — The annual Floatzilla returns to the Quad Cities this weekend. The deadline to register is noon Friday, Aug. 19.

The main events are on Saturday with paddlers spending the day taking off from five launch sites along the Mississippi River, ending up at Sunset Park in Rock Island. Floatzilla organizers say the event is a way for people to enjoy the water and their community.

"The river is the main resource within the Quad Cities and we are tying to get people to connect with each other and connect with the river," said Tom Morrell, on the Floatzilla Committee.

About 1500 people are expected to turn out for the event. They will once again try to break the world record for the largest connected raft of canoes and kayaks.
