Five airlifted from McDonough County crash

Five people were injured in a crash when the vehicle they were in lost control on an oily chipped roadway in McDonough County, police said.

The crash happened around 9:15 a.m. Sunday, August 14, 2016, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police.  They were headed westbound on 300 N when the driver, 51-year-old Gladys L. Lambert “failed to yield at the stop intersection” at 1200 E, causing the 2004 Jeep Liberty to go off the road into a ditch and hit an embankment.

Along with the driver, a 59-year-old passenger, an 11-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were all injured in the crash, police said.  They were all air lifted for treatment of mild to moderate injuries.  Everyone but the 13-year-old had their seatbelts on.

The Jeep was totaled, and had a lot of damage to the front end, according to the police statement.

Police said there was no suspicion of alcohol or drug use contributing to the crash.

The driver was cited for failure to secure child in seatbelt (age 8 but under 16), failure to yield at stop intersection, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, and improper lane usage.
