Hole 1 announcer at the John Deere Classic retires after 40 years

One of the voices of the John Deere Classic officially retired after the last shot was made at the 2016 tournament.

SILVIS, Illinois -- One of the voices of the John Deere Classic officially retired after the last shot was made at the 2016 tournament.

You've probably heard his voice, announcing golfers as they tee off on Hole 1.  Larry Lorensen has been volunteering at the JDC for 40 years.

Larry says he may be done volunteering, but he'll definitely be back.  Next time, he'll be enjoying the tournament as a spectator with his wife, Mary.

"40 is a good round number and I decided now is the time to move on," Larry said. "There was a beginning and an end. I've been through the beginning and this is the end."

"I'm kind of shaken up," said Mary. "But I'm so proud of him. He's been doing this for so long. 40 years. This tournament has meant so much and it's just something you look forward to every year. "
