DIKE, Iowa (AP) — A sheriff and sheriff’s deputy from different Iowa counties are being hailed after helping deliver a baby on the side of an east-central Iowa highway.
The roadside delivery happened Wednesday, July 3, along U.S. Highway 20 just east of Dike, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports.
Grundy County Sheriff Rick Penning says his Hardin County counterpart, Sheriff Dave McDaniel, and a Grundy County deputy were passing by and stopped to help with the woman in advanced labor. Penning says fire and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene.
Penning says the mother and her newborn were taken to a Waterloo hospital and were reported in good condition.
