ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, Illinois — An Andalusia man who won a new trial in a drunk driving crash that killed his two friends wants his case moved away from Rock Island County.

Mitch Gayer, 26, and his attorney are asking that his next trial be held outside of the county.

He's charged with being at the wheel of a deadly crash that killed 22-year-old Jamie Sedam of Port Byron, and 24-year-old Clayton Carver of Taylor Ridge back in 2013. In May 2015, Gayer was sentenced to 18 years in prison and ordered to serve a minimum of 15 years.

In January 2016, a judge allowed Gayer to take back his guilty plea and ordered a new trial. Gayer claims he does not remember the night of the accident and that he suffered brain damage in the crash.

Gayer is charged with two counts of aggravated DUI causing and accident or death. He is out of jail on bond.

A judge will rule on the change of venue later this year.
