Friendly House’s summer meal program for kids comes to a close

It’s part of a nationwide effort to get kids to eat health and learn a thing or two about good nutrition.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — An effort to make sure kids get the meals they need during the summer came to an end Wednesday, August 3.

About 70 children arrived at the Friendly House in Davenport for the last "School's Out, Food's In" event. It's part of a nationwide effort to get kids to eat health and learn a thing or two about good nutrition.

"Every parent said, 'Are you going to do that again this year?' We needed that, that was so awesome, and my greatest feeling is being able to give that to the parents and say, 'Here, here's what you get," said Monica Hursey, Friendly House Youth Services Supervisor.

The Arby's Restaurant Foundation funds the program and offers 10 free meal cards to kids at the start of the summer.

This is the second year Friendly House has hosted the program.
